DEVON Schools’ Under-15s made an encouraging start to their season on Sunday when they hosted Somerset at Mount Kelly College.
Devon’s A team narrowly lost 14-10 in a tight match where both teams scored two tries apiece. However, Devon’s B side were dominant in their game and ran out 40-19 winners.
There was little between the two sides in the A fixture. Neither team were able to score in the first half, although Devon were ruled to have been held up over the line.
Both sides, though, managed to cross the whitewash twice in the second period, with Charlie Doolan and Bailey Oram touching down for Devon.
Devon’s B team ran in six tries and produced some impressive rugby as they eased to victory in their fixture.
Ben Pitts showed his speed to score twice, with Ben Chaffey, Yan Mercan, Tom Gulley and Seth Findley also crossing. Chaffey converted five of the six tries.
Devon will next be in action against Bristol at Ivybridge on Sunday, March 31. They will then play Cornwall away on Sunday, April 14.
