Volunteer Opportunity: Girls Lead – Devon Rugby Football Union

Help us shape the future of girls’ rugby in Devon.
Devon Rugby Football Union is seeking a passionate, organised, and collaborative volunteer to take on the role of Girls Lead - a key leadership position supporting the growth, development, and sustainability of age-grade girls’ rugby across the county.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real impact on the female game, working closely with clubs, volunteers, coaches, and the RFU to ensure girls’ rugby continues to thrive at every level.
About the Role
The Girl’s Lead is responsible for providing leadership and coordination for Age-Grade Girls Rugby in Devon, working alongside the Director of Age-Grade Rugby to deliver a joined-up, sustainable approach to the female game.
You will act as the main point of contact for girls’ rugby within the County and help ensure strong communication, collaboration, and development across clubs and pathways.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the main point of contact for age-grade girls’ rugby queries and guidance
- Lead and support a small working group, including:
- Fixtures Secretary
- Cup Competitions Lead
- Liaise with the RFU on national campaigns and initiatives for the girls’ game
- Organise and lead stakeholder engagement events
- Support collaboration between:
- Club leads
- U16s Player Development Group
- U18s County Squad
- Contribute to annual reviews and manage small budgets on behalf of Devon RFU
About You
You don’t need to have held a formal rugby role before - but you do need passion, organisation, and the confidence to work with people.
You will ideally be:
- An excellent communicator, confident working with a range of stakeholders
- Knowledgeable about the girls’ rugby landscape in Devon (or keen to develop this knowledge)
- Organised, proactive, and comfortable coordinating activity across clubs
- Diplomatic and collaborative, able to manage different personalities effectively
- Able to see the geographical challenges faced by clubs across the county
- A strong team player who enjoys working across different levels of leadership
- Willing to build relationships with other counties to share best practice
