Walking Rugby
No Scrum, No Stress, Just Strides
Does the mind tell you to play, but the body keep saying no?
Walking Rugby is a fun, inclusive, and fast-growing version of the game designed for players of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Played at a walking pace with no tackling or scrums, it offers all the camaraderie, skill, and enjoyment of traditional rugby in a safe, social environment. Whether you're returning to the sport after injury or retirement, looking for a new way to keep active, or trying rugby for the first time, walking rugby is an excellent way to stay fit and connected.
Devon has quickly embraced the sport, with a growing number of clubs offering weekly sessions. Sessions are non-contact, mixed-gender, and open to all, with many clubs offering a welcoming atmosphere and tea and cake after the game — as important as the rugby itself!
Competitively, Devon’s walking rugby teams come together regularly for festivals and tournaments throughout the year. The Devon Walking Rugby Festival Series, rotating between host clubs, is a popular fixture, showcasing friendly competition and strong community spirit. There are also opportunities to compete in regional events, including the South West Walking Rugby Festival, where Devon clubs regularly feature and celebrate the game’s core values of respect, teamwork, and enjoyment.
Whether you're based on the coast or in the heart of Dartmoor, there’s likely a club nearby. Walking rugby in Devon isn’t just about playing sport — it's about friendship, fitness, and fun. Come along, give it a try, and experience the joy of rugby at walking pace.
