It’s all about T1 for the Girls in Devon & Somerset!
Year 7 Girls Shine at Exeter College T1 Rugby Festival
25 Schools from around Devon and Somerset headed to Exwick Sports Park for a top day of T1 rugby in the glorious sunshine!
On Friday 2nd May, Exeter College played host to an unforgettable Year 7 Girls T1 Rugby event, proudly supported by James Chubb, formerly of Exeter Chiefs and the Continental communications team. The day was delivered by the Devon and Somerset School Games Organisers, Dan Lugg and Jane Clark, with invaluable support from Paignton’s Schools Rugby Manager, Ella Fielding.
T1 Rugby – a new, fast-paced non-contact version of the 15-a-side game – provided the perfect introduction to rugby for many of the 330 girls who took part. The format focuses on skill, teamwork, and movement, creating a safe and inclusive environment for players of all experience levels.
“It was so much fun! I’ve never played rugby before and I didn’t think I’d be any good, but everyone was really nice and helped me learn. Normally, I only get to play with my brother!”
A total of 25 schools were represented on the day, showcasing the growing enthusiasm for girls’ rugby across the region. The event welcomed both experienced club players and those trying the sport for the very first time. The atmosphere was electric, filled with encouragement, sportsmanship, and the unmistakable buzz of new talent discovering a passion for the game. Events like this demonstrate the power of rugby to unite and inspire. A huge thank you goes to all organisers, coaches, and schools involved in delivering such a successful and empowering day for young players. FIND ME A GIRLS RUGBY CLUB
