Cup competitions in womens rugby

Women's Cup competitions play a vital role in the development of girls’ rugby in Devon, providing exciting opportunities for players to compete, challenge themselves, and showcase their skills.

This season, will be the first year we have structured competitions across all age groups, from U14s up to Seniors, ensuring an inclusive and competitive experience for teams at every level.

Senior Women: Inaugural Devon Cup Competition

For the first time, Senior Women’s teams will compete in their own Devon Cup competition, following the same format as the U18s. This one-day tournament at the end of the season will bring together teams from across the county, celebrating the continued growth of women’s rugby in Devon. It marks an exciting milestone, providing a competitive yet inclusive opportunity for clubs to compete for silverware.

U14s: The First Devon Cup Competition

For the first time, U14 girls’ teams will compete in a season-long waterfall-style Cup competition. This format ensures that teams play at a level suited to their development, with fixtures adjusting throughout the season based on results. Matches will be played in an X10s format, allowing teams with varying squad sizes to participate while maintaining an engaging and competitive structure. This new competition marks a significant step forward in developing U14s rugby, encouraging growth, teamwork, and skill progression.

U16s: Devon Cup & Plate Competitions

This highly competitive tournament has produced strong champions in recent years. The Cup, dedicated to Exeter Chiefs Captain Poppy Leitch was won last year by Devonport with the Plate being won by Exmouth. The Competition provides a fantastic opportunity for teams to push their limits and showcase their talent in a structured competition that runs throughout the season.

U18s: The Cup and Plate Tournament

With a demanding playing schedule that includes club fixtures, college competitions, U18s PDG and representative rugby, the U18s will compete in a one-day Cup and Plate tournament at the end of the season. This format replaces the traditional season-long knockout competition, allowing teams to focus on their various commitments while still experiencing the thrill of a high-stakes tournament. Previous winners have demonstrated the strength and depth of girls' rugby in Devon, and this year's event promises to deliver another showcase of skill and determination.

These competitions are a testament to the strength and progression of women and girls’ rugby in Devon, ensuring that players at all levels have meaningful and competitive playing opportunities throughout the season.
